Digital Media

"I went back to school after my children were born and the timing was just right."

Cheryl - Digital Media.

My current position is a graphic designer and an instructor. While no day is ever the same, a typical day includes organizing jobs; using different software, such as Quark®, Photoshop® and InDesign®, to create products for customers; and preparing the files for the print press (...detailed description). I spend a lot of my time working with customers and meeting deadlines. The best reward is when the customer is pleased with the job.

- Cheryl

I started off in graphic design, but I also took some classes in computer technology to keep current with what was happening in the field. I earned an Associates Degree in Graphic Design and Computerized Graphic Design from Elgin Community College (...more on education). I really loved art, but my high school offered only art courses. Now many schools are offering graphic design courses where you can explore design and technology. The technology in graphic design is challenging and is changing very quickly. I followed my interest in design right into an IT career (...more on career ins & outs). Not only do I get to work on my own designs, I get to teach design to others. It has been a very rewarding career.
