Technical Writing
"I've always loved English, creative writing, and the sciences .... You need not only
to be a good writer, but also understand technology."
I’ve seen statistics that over 60% of technical writers
(…detailed
description) are women. It is definitely a field that
women have a strong presence in and it is a good match
for
me. I think that my MS in Technical Communication has really
helped me advance my career (…more
on education), but so has a love for science in my
everyday world.

I’ve always loved English, creative writing, and the
sciences, and, like many people, thought that having good
writing
skills were all you needed to be a technical communicator.
I have found, though, that the greater your knowledge in
areas
of technology, the more success you’ll have (...more
on career ins & outs). I work
closely with the software developers but I also spend a
good part
of my day working on my own projects. Typically, I will have
several projects that all have very strict deadlines. My
job
requires a great deal of independent reading and writing,
and is well suited for free-lance, flexible careers. |
