Our nontraditional learners increased reading by 2.2 grade levels and math my 1.3 grade levels.

Nine males in the Certified Nursing Assistant Program, eight females in Multimedia, one female in Heating, Ventilation, and Refrigeration, one male in Early Childhood Education, one female in Automotive Body/Collision, four females in Architecture, six females in Fire Science, six females in Automotive Technology, one female in Electronics, and eight males in Medical Health.

Orientation consisted of nine first time CTE students. All students completed the orientation class. Seven completed spring semester classes. Five out of seven maintained GPAs of 3.0 or higher. Seven out of nine registered for a subsequent semester.

To increase the number of completers who meet the minimum qualification of 3.0 GPA by supplying them with a set of tools to start off their career or to continue onto further education.
Final Report Summary
Twelve full-time students (one student finished the program fall '05 and received a toolset) graduated from FCC's Automotive Service Technician II certificate program. Five students qualified for toolsets. Three students had a 2.97 GPA. Almost 8 out of 11 students maintained a 3.0 GPA.

Application Summary
To provide assistance for economically disadvantaged and single parent nontraditional students in the nursing programs by supplying them with funds for transportation, textbook library, uniforms, child care, and self-sufficiency needs (such as food and utilities).
Final Report Summary
Ten students met the award requirements. Program completion was met; academic skill attainment through retention was met. Overall this project had an 80% retention rate.

Forty-seven students participated in this event from nine different high schools. Faculty and students from five different college programs presented the sessions. There were six presenters on the Women in Technology panel discussion and numerous volunteers who helped. All participating students and faculty received a t-shirt and flash drive as well as a folder full of information on careers in technology.

To increase advocacy skills, diploma attainment, transition of students with disabilities to postsecondary education, and participation in nontraditional programs at the postsecondary level.
Final Report Summary
As a result of this project, 47% more graduating high school students with disabilities than last year have set up appointments for assessment prior to enrolling in college. Students mentioned that they did not know they could go on to college before they received the information presented at the workshop. The number of high school transition offerings that LSC staff were invited to and attended tripled as the result of this program.

Participants were provided with increased awareness of the resources available to them to make informed career choices and a successful transition to college. The program participants are now more likely to pursue nontradtional career options at SWIC after direct exposure to hands-on experiences and role models in nontraditional programs and access to mentors offered at the institutuon.
