Description: ICSPS will demonstrate a free, Illinois-specific, web-based, career-oriented software package.
Could This Be Your Life? highlights nontraditional careers and focuses on choices promoting self-sufficiency within
Illinois. Each participant takes an interactive journey to see the impact that selecting a career, forming a family,
and choosing a place to live may have on his/her life. Workshop attendees will also receive a copy of the
Educator’s Guide and instructions for implementation.

Session Title: Degree Audit Roundtable (Plaza 3)

Description: This session will be treated as a roundtable where attendees will break into groups based on the
type of degree audit software used by their respective college. Specific discussions will be centered around the
technical details of each software package.

Session Title: MATH PREP: How Sauk Valley Reduced its Remediation by 20% (Conference Center 2)

Description: Sauk Valley Community College is piloting a math web page entitled MATH PREP, aimed at
decreasing the percentage of high school students that place into remedial math classes when entering college.
These problems cover six areas of math, i.e. pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, college
algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Students log on to their section and can see individual results or results
for the entire class. The student data can be downloaded to a spreadsheet or a flat file for statistical analysis
with the school’s ERP data, ACT and PLAN scores, or other external data.

Session Title: Easy Development and Transition of Online Portfolios from Secondary to Postsecondary
(Conference Center 4)

Description: A growing number of community college districts and EFE regions around the state are putting in
place a seamless system for online portfolio development and transition that is easy and engaging for their
students as they advance from the sixth grade on through to the community colleges. For the past four years,
Cathy Roberts has been working with the Career Cruising system in the McLean-DeWitt and Tech Prep in the
Heartland Regions. She has developed a unique approach for helping students prepare for meeting with
prospective future employers and/or college admission counselors, and, will share her approach during this
session. Correlations to the Freshman Transition Course Standards will also be presented.
