Session Title: A New Look at the 3R’s (Conference Center 2)
Presented by: Sean McLaughlin, Education for Employment #330; Diana Glosser, Lake Land College Tech
Prep; Illinois Center for Specialized Professional Support
Description: Incorporating core curriculum - language arts, mathematics, social science, and science - into
CTE classrooms enhances both career and technical education and non-CTE classes. Resources and models
offered in this workshop will assist CTE practitioners in enriching the learning of their students by aligning the
reading, writing and math skills taught in CTE with those same subjects taught in non-CTE classes. Two
programs, one focusing on language arts and one centering on math, will outline the successes and challenges of
implementation. Illinois Center for Specialized Professional Support will provide information about resources
and support for similar innovative practices, including technical support and funding through the New Look
Project.

Session Title: Dual Credit and College Choice (Plaza 1 & 2)
Presented by: Dr. Daniel Corr, Harper College
Description: Proponents of dual credit programs often highlight the recruitment value of dual credit programs.
Once exposed to the community college, it is believed that dual credit students would be more likely to enroll
after high school graduation. In the spring of 2005, Harper College conducted a large scale research project to
determine the impact of dual credit participation on college choice. Harper College offers dual credit
opportunities both in the high schools and on the college’s campus. Differences were noted between the two
groups.
