Synopsis: Based upon the theory of Ruby Payne, this series of workshops explains the impact of poverty upon learning, beginning with basic theory and advancing to practical strategies designed to affect positively the academic performance of low income students in the classroom. This workshop series can be customized in length and content; choose from sixteen module topics ranging from, for example, Key Points, Language, Discipline, Hidden Rules and Working with Parents.
Audience: Administrators, Special Populations Coordinators, Instructors, Career/Guidance Counselors
Time: One hour for each module. A series of two hour workshops is recommended
Requirements: Purchase of book for each workshop participant is required for any workshop beyond the introductory session.
Synopsis: The workshop reviews the identification of learners with learning disabilities and mild cognitive impairment. In addition, strategies for maximizing the learning of these individuals with disabilities in the CTE classroom will be offered. The role of the CTE teacher in the IEP meeting, and IEP plan implementation will be outlined.

Synopsis: Do you or your organization assist students/clients in making more realistic career plans and choices? This workshop can provide you with an additional, cutting edge tool to direct students/clients to plan not just a career, but the rewarding life they have always imagined. Especially highlighting nontraditional careers, this interactive journey shows the impact that choices in selecting a career, forming a family and choosing a place to live may have. Ask yourself, Could This Be Your Life?
Please note: The two hour session can include a reference and resource section on careers that are nontraditional with regard to gender.
Audience: Special Populations Coordinators, Instructors, Career/Guidance Counselors
Time: One-two hours
Requirements: Internet access (For a more in-depth tour of the product, a computer lab may be helpful).
Synopsis: Over 70% of employed women are clustered into just twenty careers. This presentation provides cutting-edge recruitment tools designed to invite women out of the "expected" occupations and into a "You Could Be Anything" world of possibilities.

Synopsis: This course will review important civil rights legislation and guidance, describe the standards by which the legislation is enforced, and list the documents which may indicate compliance. The participants will become familiar with the Civil Rights Self-Assessment Tool for Illinois. This workshop may be adapted for postsecondary or secondary. For secondary participants, a sample Sex Equity Plan will be offered.
